Description

Jasper Button has been steadily refining his approach to Pinot Noir over the past decade, and the 2024 Eurilla shows just how far he’s come. Working with fruit from two cooler Piccadilly Valley sites - Aesctun and Deanery - this wine is a more focused, polished expression of what Commune of Buttons is capable of.

Both vineyards bring something different to the table: Aesctun’s south-facing slope gives structure and depth, while Deanery’s east-facing site contributes brightness and drive. The fruit was picked by hand, with 10% whole bunch retained for lift, then fermented naturally and aged in older French oak for eight months, followed by a short stint in tank before bottling.

It’s got all the hallmarks of Jasper’s recent work showing bright red fruits, fine tannins, and a savoury, almost herbal edge that keeps things interesting. There’s more clarity and precision here than in earlier releases, with the wine showing a real sense of place without losing approachability.

This is thoughtful, confident Pinot Noir that reflects Jasper’s growing skill and understanding of these cool Adelaide Hills sites. A great step forward.

"This is a nice wine. Nice, nice. Spot on. Supple texture, a bit of gravelly grip, some haziness, dark cherry, a touch of cola, shiitake mushroom, mocha, caraway seeds, fennel and dried herbs. Good concentration yet a sense of freshness and lift. Pure feeling despite its savoury tendencies. An utter delight to drink."

    Great Drop

Never disappoint - prompt delivery was bonus!

Eurilla Pinot is from two sights this year, the Aesctun Vineyard on south facing slopes of the northern ridge of the Piccadilly valley and Deanery vineyard on the east facing slopes at the southern end of the valley. After hand picking, the grapes were sorted and destemmed with 10% whole bunches. Fermentation was for 3 weeks and elevage was for 8 months in 3 year old barriques and 4 months in tank. Eurilla Pinot 2024 has bright natural acidity and is red fruited with intense dark cherries and bramble. There are pleasant savoury undertones of dry leaves and forest floor.

Commune of Buttons

Siblings Jasper and Sophie Button returned home some years ago to help save their family vineyard nestled in the Basket Range of the Adelaide Hills, planted primarily to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay 20 years ago by their mother.

They began restoring the site and transitioning to organic and biodynamic farming, and at some point decided that rather than sell off their prized grapes to others, they’d turn their hand to winemaking.

The wines are made naturally with only minimal sulphur additions and slow, gentle ferments. Jasper's winemaking has taken them to the front of the pack in the lo-fi Australian wine scene. With each release, the wines are more refined and detailed. They are wonderfully pure, unadulterated and as loveable as the family who makes them.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
