Back when hardly anyone cared about Barbaresco, and it sat in the shadow of big brother Barolo, Gaja backed it with real innovation and bravery. That helped lift the whole region, and this estate Barbaresco is where the story starts.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt's drawn from 14 vineyards across the communes of Barbaresco and Treiso, including Asili, Rabajà, Faset, Roncagliette and the Pajorè sites. Each plot is fermented and aged separately for 12 months in French oak. The parts are then blended and spend another 12 months in big Slavonian oak botti. That's a lot of care for one bottle of Nebbiolo.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eGaia Gaja says 2023 brought a wet spring and a very hot summer, which made big, juicy berries. The result isn't diluted, though. Expect cedar, rooibos tea, warm spice and spring flowers, then bright forest berries wrapped in long, silky tannins and a zesty, spiced citrus finish. It's lovely now, but it'll happily sit in the cellar too.
