Counter to many of the other producers in Central Otago, Felton Road crafts their Riesling in a coiled style.

It has a bit of residual sugar, but the intense flavours of ripe stone fruit and refreshing line of acidity keep it in check and bring it all together in complete harmony.

If you are looking for a fine Riesling that will drink well now as well as mature in the cellar, this is a great option.

Tasting Note:
Brooding aromas of wet stones, stonefruits and
hints of lanolin, make for a complexing
introduction. The mouthfeel opens with a burst of
sweetness which is immediately tempered by
intense stonefruit flavours and crisp acidity. Like
a perfectly tree-ripened Central Otago peach,
the completeness and beauty of the flavours
dissolves the sweetness and sings of our
mountainous Bannockburn location.

Commencing with meticulous site selection and
vineyard design in 1991, Felton Road's story is one of
refusal to compromise. A strict 100% estate policy with
fully organic and biodynamic viticulture (BioGro and
Demeter certified) ensures that our fruit arrives at the
winery as pure as it can be, while our entire estate
comes as close to true sustainability as is possible. A
commitment to hands off winemaking: gravity flow;
indigenous yeasts and malolactic; an avoidance of
fining and filtration; all help preserve the wine's
expression of its terroir. The result is Riesling,
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which accurately express
the authenticity and complexity of our unique

Vineyard & Viticulture:
Felton Road farms four properties totaling 34 ha in the
Bannockburn subregion of Central Otago. Blocks 2
and 4 are located on gravel fans within the Elms
Vineyard with deep soils of angular schist gravels.
Meticulous summer management of a single vertical
shoot positioned (VSP) canopy ensures even and early
fruit maturity. Shoot thinning, shoot positioning, leaf
plucking, bunch thinning and harvest are all carried out
by hand to ensure optimum quality fruit. Cover crops
are planted between rows to assist in vine balance and
to improve soil health and general biodiversity.

Spring temperatures and rainfall were normal with
only a couple of mild frost events which were
successfully fought. Flowering proceeded in warm
and relatively stable weather and resulted in setting a
normal sized crop across all three varieties.
December was warm and dry with these conditions
further exacerbated over the next several weeks until
a welcome rain event on February 21. With the
relatively dry conditions prevailing for the previous
months, this event and the periodic rain throughout
March (but still only 43mm recorded), did not
present any disease pressure issues and provided
welcome relief to the warm and somewhat previous
stressful conditions. Cooler night temperatures
arrested the ripening for slow and steady
development. Harvest commenced on March 23,
and fears of an early, hot and fast harvest were
fortunately not realised. Riesling was harvested from
April 4-13.

Riesling from Block 4 of The Elms vineyard was
carefully hand-picked, whole bunch pressed, settled
for 4-7 days before racking, then fermented with
indigenous yeasts. The 4 week fermentation was
stopped by chilling when the optimal balance was
achieved between the acidity, alcohol and residual
sugar (59g/L). Careful winemaking with minimal
processing highlights the crisp natural acidity and the
Riesling characters are delicately poised in the low
alcohol of 9.5%.

92 Points - "Fresh and fruity with melon and yellow plum aromas and flavors with some sliced cooked apple. Sweet pears. Medium-bodied, off dry and a fruity finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink now. Screw cap." - James Suckling

    A Bannockburn Delight

For me, one to the best rieslings out of New Zealand. Made in a German kabinett to spatlese style beautifully balanced between sweet and acidic. Think peach or nectarine stone fruit balanced with your typical slate or mineral. Obviously lower alcohol and absolutely delicious, especially with spicy asian foods.

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
