2023 Domaine Naturaliste Rebus Cabernet Sauvignon

Highly Rated
One of the most consistant Cabernets in all of Margaret River. Bruce Dukes handles this variety with great aplomb and this is a stellar release.

Description

Bruce Dukes' winemaking starts literally from the ground up.

The man has been obsessed with growing things for over two decades and it shows in every wine he makes. His roots have been put down in Margaret River, and as such he has immense insight into what the balance of soil, aspect and clone can do to a wine in this part of the world. One of his great loves is Margaret River Cabernet - and with this wine, we can definitely see why.

He explained to us, "Rebus is a picture puzzle that when you look at it, the solution is not immediately apparent, there may be several solutions. That's why I love Margaret River Cabernet - it's constantly changing and it keeps me constantly challenged."

If you love Margaret River Cabernet, you are going to fall in love with this wine.

"All the fabulous varietal and regional aromas plus flavours are on full display thanks to an excellent vintage. A neat combo of violets, mulberries, blackcurrants and all manner of baking spices, especially cinnamon with mocha, licorice and coffee grinds. Full-bodied, ripe, sweet fruit floods the palate, so too lots of cedary oak, and yet the tannins are fine and the acidity equally fine. Good drinking today, even better with more time."

94 points - "This is 96% Cabernet Sauvignon with 4% Cabernet Franc. 35% new oak. I note with interest that this wine used to be released with near three years of bottle age, and then just shy of two for the 2022, and now maybe 18 months for this one, which means it must be selling well, you know, good and all that, and keeping wines on shelves etc. is important for a brand. As a result, this wine is pretty backwards, and needs some more time. The 2014 Rebus, tasted as part of a ten year retrospective of MR Cabernet looked excellent, so there’s no question these wines age very well.

The quality of the fruit here is excellent, and it really pops with bright blue and purple crushed grapes, sports a bit of coffee barrel char and reduction as at now, but if you look past that there’s quite some perfume, aromatic spice, black olive, and very good structure. It has some chew to tannin, and offers freshness and a vibrant character, and the finish is long and firm. Give it a year or two in the cellar, and I’m sure you’ll be well rewarded." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

93 points - "Quite a different take on the Artus is this more classically defined modern expression of the variety. There is a pristine purity evident immediately with a floral cut lime and pear lift on the nose. Then the palate coils and tightens as it extends through to a very long finish. An elegant wine with a purity and finesse that is so appealing." - Ray Jordan

Somethings going on here. I don’t know what caused it, but I like it. One of the nice things about wine is the story trapped within. Something to do with lean gravel soils and maritime climate … 96 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% splash of aromatic (blue purple spectrum) Cabernet Franc, all matured for a full year in 35 % new French oak barriques, mainly from the Troncais, Jupille and Allier forests. I have found these forest selections to have gentle tannins and are supportive of aromatic lift.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
