Description

The Apollo Pinot Noir joins The Rocket Chardonnay in the firmament of prestige Murdoch Hill releases - the space series...

The fruit comes from family’s recently acquired Lenswood Vineyard. A cool vintage in 2022 saw just 20% whole bunch used. Some high end oak maturation helps add structure and complexity, looking for longevity as well as suppleness in its youth.

It's a beautiful pale colour with floral aromas of rosehip and herbs. Lively and tangy, linear but sinewy, only mid-weight but carrying a good deal of future power. A refined delight.

This is by far the finest Pinot Noir ever made at Murdoch Hill - it may well be one of the best ever in the Adelaide Hills. Only limited stocks available.

"The wine is called Apollo, and when you taste it, it takes you to the stars. This wine is so good, and so distinct, that it's tempting to say that it redefines what is possible with pinot noir and the Adelaide Hills. It's complex. It's structured. It's Italianate. It's varietal. And it's itself. It brings smoked, ripe, berried fruit to the table and then layers woodsy herbs, gunmetal, twigs and peppers throughout. It's a big statement in measured, precise voice. Wow. Seriously. Wow."
- Campbell Mattinson (Halliday Wine Companion)

93 Points - "A cool vintage, but a good one. Typically regional aromas of mescal and dill, derived from a good whack of whole bunches in the mix. Damson, mandarin bitters, bracken and gunpowder, the fleck of stalky, green tannins too evident and herbaceous. Yet the fruit beyond has charm. The structure of the wine has gravitas. This is no simple and sweet pinot. There is more going on, yet only time will tell if the green astringency is to be absorbed" - Ned Goodwin MW (jamessuckling.com)

94 Points - "Whiffs of cap gun, warm slate, a bit of flint too, plus dark cherry, salted liquorice. Savoury start, very. Smoky and flinty to taste, an override on dark cherry fruit, plum, licks of liquorice again and lingers with smokiness again. Tannins are grippy and Italianate, but the savoury and herbal elements rule. A caveat for some. Structured, serious pinot noir. A bottle opened day before: less of the savoury elements, chewy, juicy, dark fruited and the tannins ripping with authority. More fruit and herb and spice here. A better wine. 94+" - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

    Green

    A disappointing surprise.

Purchased 3 bottles following the strong reviews and apparent glowing support for this wine.

I found it to be far less attractive with a green and herbaceous finish. For a 2 year old Pinot I expected some less attractive but this is definitely not an Impressive wine when compared to others at this price point. Wont be buying it again and pleased only a spend of circa $240. I would prefer to choose other options from the Tasmanian or Victorian Pinot ranks.

Best Adelaide Hills Pinot I've ever had

I'm not usually a big fan of Adelaide Hills Pinot, but this is easily the best I've tried from that region. Should be for the price I guess, but this is actually worth the dollars. Pristine varietal pinot, savoury whole bunch, fine tannin backbone, long fresh finish. Wish I could afford heaps more, but 1-2 will have to do.

    Delicious

    Great Pinot noir .

Gorgeous fruit balanced by subtle tannin and acidity. Elegant.

    Will cellar beautifully too.

    Love it.

Murdoch Hill

Murdoch Hill is a family-owned winery captained by talented young winemaker Michael Downer.

Downer splits the range in two: his clean-cut, consistently high-quality ‘Estate’ wines are excellent value and perpetually reliable, and his quirky, adventurous ‘Artisan’ wines which offer an alt-styling and different shades of the region.

With the combination of high-quality Adelaide Hills fruit grown on the family estate and the undoubted talent in the winery, this is a Hills producer on the up and up!

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
