About This Wine
Born and bred locals Chad and Gee Connolly at White Gate Wine Co have diverted from the norm of the 90s and released a softly-delicious, approachable style of Cabernet, that shows the lighter side of the Barossa Valley.
Lightly herbal, with gentle but ripe tannins playing around a succulent cherry/ red fruit core. Lovely length too. The grapes are picked early, whole berry fermented, and don’t spend too much time on skins.
They want to minimise extraction and prioritise a juicer expression, that is all about showcasing the fruit.
About White Gate Wine Co.
White Gate Wine Co is the husband and wife team Chad and Georgie (Gee) Connolly, Barossa locals who have set out to make approachable, juicy, minimum intervention wines, with Burgundy and Beaujolais their inspiration.
The focus in on early-picked fruit, bright acidities and no additions apart from small amounts of sulphur pre-bottling. Riesling, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Syrah (Durif).
The winemaking is decidedly old-school, with all reds basket-pressed, aged in old oak, and all wines bottled under cork and wax by hand.
