2021 Swan Valley Wines Warrine Chenin Blanc

Swan Valley, WA

A single-vineyard Chenin Blanc from WA with beautiful aromatics.

About the Wine

In the past few years, Chenin Blanc has seen a huge surge of interest from winemakers and drinkers alike. No longer associated with overly sweet versions that gave the grape a bad name, Chenin Blanc has shown itself to be a variety that can give other white grapes a run for their money in Australia.

The Swan Valley Wines Warrine Chenin Blanc is a beautiful wine with a lovely mix of fruity and savoury, with a bit of funkiness and a nod to the Chenin Blancs of the Loira Valley. Perfect on a hot day straight from the fridge, either with some seafood or just on its own.

About Swan Valley Wines

In 1986, Peter Hoffman purchased an old block of vines that were in need of a bit of love. Up until 1999, the grapes were sold, until Peter decided to make his own wine. Having spent his formative years pruning the vines and spending heaps of time on the property surrounded by vines and wine, and following work as an Environmental Consultant, Peter's son Paul eventually returned to the farm and took over the winemaking responsibilities.

Swan Valley Wines focuses on making wines as naturally as possible, with their "manifesto" being to protect old vines, preserve the character of the estate and vineyard, to respect the rules of nature, and to resist trends. A huge variety of reds, whites and blends are produced, to suit all tastes.

From the Producer

The second single vineyard release from this historic vineyard. Vines planted 1913 on deep river loams. These vines are the source block of the Noack clone of Chenin, which is rumoured to be a French clone, in contrast to the South African vine material elsewhere in the valley.

Hand picked fruit was whole bunch pressed to stainless steel for settling without additions. Fermentation in seasoned French oak barriques without lees stirring. Racked to stainless steel after four months maturation.

Lifted ‘yellow jelly baby’, orchard fruit and passionfruit aromatics with a long, textured, citrus accented palate. The 2020 was a mini-sensation in Perth and won some awards nationally, but the 2021 is potentially a better wine.
