About The Wine

This lovely release from Sinapius features fruit from the gorgeous Tasmanian vineyard planted by Linda Morice and the late Vaughn Dell.

Gamay is becoming more and more popular these days, Vaughn was ahead of the curve to plant it on his 'close-planted' block and his foresight is now paying off.

It's beautiful, bright and fragrant, a very high quality early drinking red with plenty of chalky structure to back up the vibrant red fruits. Just yum.

About Sinapius

Sinapius is a premium boutique Tasmanian winery started by two young, passionate winemakers.

The couple, Vaughn Dell & Linda Morice, purchased the site when they were only 24-years-old and chose to plant their vines in the Burgundian fashion opting for high-density planting and low yielding crops. Their small labour of love has budded into one of Tasmania's most exciting viticultural projects.

Their wines are of extremely high quality, made in small amounts and showcase their unique patch of dirt with transparency, purity and power.

Since Vaughn's tragic passing Linda has carried on their dream, expanding the range and solidifying their standing as one of Tasmania's best producers.

Additional Info

From The Producer

Estate Grown Gamay sourced from dry grown, high density planted vineyard, planted in 2013 between 7,700 – 11,111 vines per hectare. Gently handpicked to ensure all bunches remain intact, the grapes underwent traditional whole cluster carbonic maceration for 3 weeks, without any addition of sulfur. After pressing, the wine is matured in a 1500 litre foudré and old barriques for 5 months, and bottled without fining and filtration

The wine opens with an intensely perfumed nose, showing wild strawberry and redcurrants with hints of violet and wild fennel. Medium bodied, a savoury palate from the whole-bunch stem elements, juicy red fruits, with fine/chalky tannins. This wine has great length and persistence, with a wonderful fine spice and lively acidity to finish. Enjoy at room temperature or chilled.

The Wine Front

"The wine is good. Nutty, herbal, complex, tannic but not excessively so, alive with fruit but not sweet. I love the savoury, herb-driven energy of this wine. It’s a wine of charm of interest." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

96Points
Halliday Wine Companion

"Estate-grown gamay, hand picked, 3-week long 100% whole-bunch maceration, pressed to foudre and old oak for 8 months. Not fined or filtered, with the only addition of minimal SO2 at bottling. Bright, clear crimson. A wildflower and violet-perfumed bouquet floats out of the glass with minimal agitation, adding spicy, sultry notes of plum on the finely balanced palate." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

    Always a winner

This never fails to be a great drop. Beautiful light, yet serious Gamay with a slight funk (in a good way.)

Truly one of the best expressions of Gamay in Australia, and certainly the most unique I’ve tried.

    Exceptional juicy number

Nice and juicy red, with an acidic fizz on the tongue. All your red fruits in perfect balance. Touch drier than the French Gamays, but is excellent Australian wine.
