About The Wine

A little sweetness goes a long way with this zesty Mudgee Riesling. Despite plenty of rain, a long and warm summer led to beautifully ripe grapes perfect for an off-dry version of an Aussie classic.

After the grapes are hand-pickef from over 40-year-old vines, the wine goes through a long fermentation with a bit of lees work following for texture. Expect classic lemon and lime notes, a touch of blossom, with the touch of sweetness balanced well against a steely acid line.

Perfect for summer sipping and ready for some elegant food pairings.

About Robert Stein

The Stein family has a long history with Riesling, dating back to 1838 and among the first to successfully plant the variety in Australia. Nowadays it is the family flagship variety, with three Riesling styles being made most years.

The Dry, Half Dry and Reserve Rieslings are made from fruit off our vineyard which was planted in 1976, along with fruit sourced from numerous vineyards in Mudgee, including the Historic Miramar vineyard.

This family tradition of winemaking has since been continued by Robert and Lorna’s grandson, Jacob Stein, returning to the family business in 2009 as chief winemaker.

Jacob explains, “Mudgee has excellent attributes for growing grapes. The region has a continental climate with warm days and cool nights, combined with excellent soil profiles are some of the attributes that help Mudgee produce great wines with a distinct regional character”

From The Producer

This Single Vineyard Half Dry Riesling was harvested in the early morning from the Angullong Vineyard at Millthorpe near Orange NSW. Fermentation was cool & slow, with the ferment being stopped at 15 grams residual sugar. The wine was left in tank on lees for a further 4 months, stirring occasionally for further palate texture.

Showing great lemon/lime citrus characters, with a nice bouquet of fruit which is balanced out nicely by the crisp, clean acidity.

Blend : Riesling (100%)

Closure : Screw Cap
Drink Until : 2035

The Wine Front

"Ripe/sweet grape flavours with lemon sherbet and steel-like characters. The sweetness here comes across as very light; its ‘thing’ revolves more around that steely, almost gravelly burst. It feels both textured and taut; it begs to be consumed, right now, and yet there’s ample evidence that it’s been built to be held onto. Interesting wine of clear quality." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

The Real Review

"Lifted aromas of citrus blossom, white flowers, melon skin, nettle and gravel. Punchy, focused and zippy, plenty of lemon, lime, a lick of boiled orange and spice. Tangy acidity keeps the residual sugar in check and brings a delightful ping of freshness." - Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

Best off- dry I have had

Got a bottle of this the other day in the Robert Stein cellar door ( a must visit, when you are in Mudgee). What a surprise package this little wine is. Great balance of sweetness that still finishes a little dry and allows you to come back for another glass. I can see why this wine has won a few trophies already, cant wait to get back to Mudgee and get some more. Yum! Yum! Yum!
