About This Wine
Sometimes wines can be true reflections of the people and places that made them. Winemaking in itself is a bit of a conundrum; why is it that the poorest soils, seem to produce the best wines?
This Pinot is a great example of both those premises. The Rising vineyard grows on barren soils, leached of any nutrients over time, yet with just enough clay to retain some moisture. The intense concentrated fruit that emerges though, is packed with structure and flavour.
With a minimal intervention philosophy Tony Fikkers lets the fruit speak for itself. What we have here is an earthy smoky wine, with red berries, and heaps of serious structure, that provide an hint to this wines longevity and complexity.
About Rising
Nestled on the outskirts of the St. Andrews township in the Yarra Valley, the Rising vineyard is a truly special and spectacular site.
Nutrient-poor soils, an ancient landscape and terroir, alongside gentle elevation all combine to provide vinous opportunity for those with the gumption to take it.
Anthony Fikkers is that man, a champion of minimal intervention winemaking from the vineyard through to the bottle.
Fikkers produces wines that speak of time and place, reflections of the vineyard and vintage from whence they emerged. With over a decade of Yarra experience at some of the who’s who of contemporary winemaking, he is a worthy custodian of this special place.
