About the Wine

In 2021 Bryan Martin at Ravensworth got his hands on a small batch of pristine Chardonnay from the excellent Johansen's vineyard in Tumbarumba that has long supplied superb fruit for wines such as Penfolds Yattarna.

And from this fruit he's made three different Chardonnay versions in his 'Project C', titled as Reduction, Oxidation and Skin-Contact, all only bottled in magnum.

The Oxidation Chardonnay was put into barrel but not to the brim, and not topped up, so the wine remained in contact with the air. It's got a much deeper colour, and a more developed peach and melon character that may veer towards the honeyed. Immensely satisfying and flavoursome.

There's was no sulphur added at all, so it's essentially a natural wine too, with the oxidation helping protect the wine.

About Ravensworth

Bryan Martin is a winemaker at the height of his powers. Setting aside the exceptional work he is doing behind the scenes at regional flagbearer, Clonakilla, his Ravensworth wines have become some of the Canberra region’s hottest releases.

Bryan’s winemaking style is equal parts science and artistic flair. He’s an adventurous spirit trapped in the body of a technical virtuoso. A concert pianist jamming to free jazz. It’s a killer combination.

His range is full of alternative varieties and whacky blends, with texture and balance the key in everything. These are unique wines from a region on the up and up and now some of Canberra’s most sought-after wines.

From The Producer

We haven’t used much Chardonnay over the years, plenty of people doing great things around the country. However, chance, opportunity and a little bit of planning has us playing around with a batch from one of the best vineyards in the country. The Johansen vineyard in Tumbarumba has quietly been producing high grown, cold climate Chardonnay that tends to end up in Penfolds Yattarna, you know, the white grange or something like that. We have been using other varieties like their Gamay and Pinot Gris for years.

Three batches of Chardonnay were made with the exact same fruit and utlised three different wine making techniques.

2: Oxidation

Same fruit pressed to smaller barrel but not topped up, barrel spun on its side, on ullage, so in contact with a little surface oxygen constantly, and left alone for the year. Then when ready to bottle, no added SO2, so essentially a preservative free wine. This allows for more reaction, development, deeper colour and more evolved flavours./p>

Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.

Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
