About the Wine
Skin contact Pinot Gris is a hard one to discuss - is it an amber wine? With the natural colour of Pinot Gris skins being pink-ish, you could call is a rose. Maybe the discussion is unimportant, especially with a wine with as much flavour as this.
The fruit for this wine underwent carbonic maceration, ensuring a bright, lively and expressive result. There is more weight here than you'd expect from a Pinot Gris, the result of both skin contact and riper fruit. There is something elixir-like going on here, with a balance of fruit, spice and herbs - it opens with Pink Lady apples and pears, with fresh forest berries, and follows with white pepper, baking spice and savoury herbs. Complex and approachable at the same time, with thirst crushing juiciness.
About M & J Becker
Husband and wife duo, Meagan and James Becker are a part of the new guard based in the Hunter Valley, fighting to reshape the region and its rigid preconceptions surrounding the growth and production of wine.
Making their wines with a focus on minimal intervention, their estate vineyard is currently in the process of conversion to certified organics.
After cutting his teeth in California, James returns to Mendocino County once a year to produce small quantities of single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
M&J Becker Wines was realised to focus on Meagan and James passion for the region, and its ability to produce dry–grown and environmentally sustainable wine.
