About the Wine
For people born after 1986, Voltron was the name of a space robot, piloted by five different pilots. Voltron, as a wine rather than a cartoon, takes the great Aussie tradition of multi-regional and multi-varietal blends to the extreme. Five different grape varieties from five different regions. Shiraz, Dolcetto, Barbera, Gewurztraminer and Sangiovese. We know what you're thinking - together at last!
It's absurdly fragrant - sour cherries, plums, lavender, clove and rose petals. The juicy goodness continues through the wine, with ripe raspberries, strawberries and cooling river mint. The most amazing thing is that the blend, despite being complex, is soft and friendly. Serve this with a decent chill to take full advantage of its nouveau vibe.
About Konpira Maru
Konpira Maru is the story of Alistair Reed and Sam Cook coming together from various parts of the wine industry to start their own creative outlet for making fascinating, minimum intervention wines. Their first release, a mere 600 bottles, was in 2014.
Their success, particularly with wonderful Pet Nats has allowed them to expand their horizons. They source fruit from growers in central Victoria and the South Burnett and Granite Belt regions in Queensland. And from 2016 they have been organically farming their own Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris in Whitlands, high above the King Valley.
