About the Wine
Golden Child already have a Sauvignon Blanc in the range. "But what about a second Sauvignon Blanc?" Their first definitely paved the way for this - it's also a fume style, but here everything is dialled up and taken to the next level.
One third of the wine saw time on skins, while the other two thirds were whole bunch pressed. All parts were matured in second use oak for almost a year on lees before being bottled unfiltered, unfined and untamed. This is utterly outrageous - in a good way. There is an explosion of tropical fruits from the glass, like a fruit punch, with a back bone of citrus and pineapple Zooper Dooper. Oh man, this is refreshing. Have it chilled and consider this instead of your next margarita.
About Golden Child
Golden Child is the project of father-and-son team, David and James Hamilton. David grows the grapes from his own vineyard in Kuitpo in the southern Adelaide Hills, while son James uses his wealth of winemaking experience to bring the wines to bottle.
Having their own 20+-year-old vineyard gives the Hamiltons enormous flexibility with the wines and allows James to craft some pretty unique offerings. The fruit is all hand-picked, fermented with natural yeasts and crafted together gently and with minimum additions.
The range is wide, colourful and wholly enjoyable - this is a new Hills producer to keep an eye on.
