2021 Fervor Dokta Nova Riesling

Frankland River, WA

Fresh and electric Riesling from a father-son winemaking duo in WA's Frankland River.

About The Wine

Winemakers Mike and Callum Garland have focused on absolute freshness in their 'Doka Nova' Riesling. With grapes sourced from three parcels in WA's Frankland River subregion, there's an emphasis on purity, quality, and solid concentration of flavour.

There's more than a little bit of a nod towards German Riesling styles, even down to the specific yeast strains used in fermentation. Style-wise, too, this is Germanically clean and fresh with loads of citrus plus a slightly creamy texture from some fermentation and ageing in old oak barriques.

A cracking offer showcasing the great quality of fruit and winemaking that WA has to offer.

About Fervor

Fervor is the new dynamic winemaking label run by the father and son duo of Mike and Callum Garland.

Mike has been an established name in the Great Southern wine community since 1996, having honed his skills at well-known producers such as Plantagenet Wines, Singlefile, and Castelli Estate, as well as a brief sojourn to craft artisanal Rieslings in Germany.

With son Callum, he now makes his own bottlings with the Fervor brand. They focus on showcasing the cool-climate expressions of Western Australian regions like Frankland River and Great Southern, with an emphasis on freshness and approachability.

From The Producer

Grapes were machine harvested in the coolest part of the day to avoid phenolic extraction. Each of the three parcels was picked at different ripeness levels to provide the complexity of flavours. Free-run juice cut at 520L/T with pressings going to separate tank. Free-run fractions were clarified and fermented under temperature control (12-15degC) using specific German yeast strains.

The fermentation was slow and steady with a drop of between 0.6 and 1.2 Be per day. Pressing juice was hyper-oxidised to reduce bitter phenolics and left to settle naturally prior to clean racking and partial fermentation in old French oak barriques with indigenous yeast. Post-fermentation each parcel was lightly fined (using Vegan-friendly vegetable protein), blended, and stabilised prior to bottling.

Critic Reviews

The Real Review

"Attractive lemon and lime juice aromas, some crushed lime leaf too, and a little yeastiness, the palate intense and piercing, with good concentration and persistence. A powerful, dry-style riesling, which has richness and good ageing potential. Drink: 2022-2032." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)
