Boschkloof is a 25-hectare family estate just outside Stellenbosch, planted and established by Jacques Borman in 1996, with his son Reenen taking over winemaking duties in 2010 after training at Elsenberg and completing a vintage in France's Hermitage region. That Northern Rhone influence shows strong.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Epilogue comes from a single block of SH99 clone vines planted in that original 1996 season, now 27 years old, growing in decomposed granite over ironstone. Low yields, careful farming, and a cool ocean influence from the nearby coast all feed into fruit that arrives at the winery with genuine intensity and aromatic lift. 60% whole-clusters went into open-top stainless steel tanks, with native and cultured yeasts and 12 days on skins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eAgeing is split between concrete (60%) and new 400L French oak (40%) over 14 months, a combination that builds texture and structure without pushing the oak too far forward. The wine was lightly filtered but not fined, and just 333 cases were produced.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe result is a Syrah of real presence: perfumed and spiced, with the kind of savoury, structured depth that asks for time in the cellar. Tim Atkin MW awarded it 100 points, and it took out WineMag's 2023 Overall Red Wine of the Year with 98 points. At this level, the Epilogue sits comfortably alongside benchmark Northern Rhone Syrah, and South Africa's finest red wines.
