The white Burgundies of Benjamin Leroux are remarkable for their elegance and finesse.

The Meursault is in a very good place this year. Invariably one of the most beloved of the Leroux white villages, it is estate grown fruit, with select parcels from Moulin Landin, Les Criots, Bois de Blagny and Les Millerands combining to create a mellifluous Chardonnay of great purity and energy.

It has the weight you want in a Meursault, amd the pulpy, open citrus fruit, but the acidity and drive is the thing that will take your breath away.

Diam. As always, the Meursault is based on Leroux’s own vines in Moulin Landin, Les Criots, Bois de Blagny and Les Millerands. There’s also some Clos du Village, one of the new parcels in Meursault that Leroux picked up following the 2017 harvest. Fruit from the white marls of Bois de Blagny brings incredible drive and salty/mineral backbone to the rest of the layered, fleshy Meursault fruit.

Leroux tells us the Blagny fruit is sometimes almost too zesty and mineral on its own, but it brings so much to the blend, especially in warmer vintages. He also told us the previous owner was not aware that this parcel was entitled to apply for 1er Cru status, so it remains classified as village. Each of these sites is certified organic and managed with biodynamic methods.

The oldest vines date back to 1944. Fermentation and maturation took place in a mix of 300-litre and 600-litre barrels before the wine was racked to foudre and stainless steel to finish aging. Finally, Leroux did not have enough grapes to craft his Meursault Narvaux, so that was also blended into this cuvée.

88-91 points - “Made mostly from domaine fruit with the small amount of purchased Narvaux included. Pale lemon colour, lifted and charming. Good acidity behind, medium bodied, this will show a little more opulence later.” - Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy)

88-90 points - “The 2021 Meursault Village includes fruit from Narvaux that is usually bottled separately. This has another perfumed nose with orange blossom, apricot and quince aromas that are very seductive. The palate is well-balanced with a smooth, rounded texture. It offers fine acidity and is quite long in the mouth. Not complex per se, but nevertheless, this Meursault should offer a decade's drinking pleasure.” Neal Martin (Vinous)

93 points - “There is a forward, engaging ripe apple and spice nose on the initial attack of this village Meursault with notes of acacia flowers and butter that open up on the palate. The wine seems to lack the incisive acidity of some of the 21s, yet is supple and very pleasant. Due to frost damage, this contains all the fruit from Les Criots, Au Moulin Landin, Les Millerands, Bois de Blagny, and Forges – everything was blended together and only Vireuils separated out, making twenty barrels, and only one was new. A classic village-level Meursault.” - Charles Curtis MW (Decanter)

Benjamin Leroux

Burgundian native Benjamin Leroux is one of the brightest minds and winemaking talents of his generation.

Considered a winemaking prodigy from an early age, Leroux attended the Lycée Viticole in Baune at the tender age of 13. Then, at the age of just 26, he ascended to the roles of manager and winemaker in the famed cellars of Domaine Comte Armand - a remarkable vote of confidence in one so young.

In 2007 he launched his eponymous label to wide critical acclaim. His has been a meteoric rise through the ranks of Burgundy's producers. His incisive modern approach to winemaking combined with his deep knowledge and respect for tradition has seen his small, hand-crafted cuveés coveted by collectors across the world.

These wines speak eloquently of where they come from. A legend in the making, Leroux's wines are some of the most exciting in modern-day Burgundy.

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
