About The Wine
The Vondeling wines hail from the Western Cape region of South Africa, around 45 minutes drive from Cape Town.
This historic Cape Dutch homestead has a focus on sustainability and conservation, and delivers very solid value for money across the board.
The Babiana is named after Babiana Noctiflora, a local flower in the Iris family that baboons would munch on. This native is protected now at Vondeling.
The wine is a premium white blend comprised of Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Grenache Blanc & Roussanne, blended to be rich and toasty. Lovers of more opulent styles of Chardonnay will find plenty of joy here.
About Vondeling
On the slopes of Paardeberg mountain, about 45 minutes drive from Cape Town, is Vondeling (meaning 'foundling'). Current managing director, Julian Johnsen, says he was always "quite keen" on acquiring a winery in this area, as it's a well-known industry secret that it's known for producing top quality fruit.
Vondeling produces excellent wines while maintaining harmony with nature. Their flagship white and red blends are named after flowers endemic and unique to the region they are part of (Babiana & Monsonia).
The core value of Vondeling, other than to make fantastic wines, is to farm in an ethical and sustainable manner.
