About This Wine
What’s the Story Rory (never gets old)? Pushing boundaries is the headline with this wine, forcing a Shiraz dominant region into taking its southern Rhone cousin a bit more seriously.
Grampians Grenache may be a newish addition to the Aussie wine scene, but winemaker Rory Lane has a firm belief in the quality of fruit coming out of the region, and this wine is a fantastic example of what is possible. Floral, and very bright, the aromatics and flavour profile on this wine scream red fruits, pink flowers, and oodles of depth.
Light in body, yet big in personality, this wine imbues all the wonderful character of Grenache that we have grown to cherish.
About The Story
Established in 2004, The Story Wines is a boutique winery based in the suburbs of Melbourne, making wines from the Grampians and a collection of Victorian regions.
Rory Lane started making wine with no family background in the industry, and a questionably vocational degree in ancient Greek tragedy, comparative literature and politics. In wine he finally discovered the sciences, and found he actually enjoyed it! Since 2004 he has focused his energy on the Grampians and coaxing new expressions of the Rhône varieties from the Shiraz-dominant region.
Their unconventional origins are echoed in our production - our winery is located in the city suburbs rather than the rolling hills of wine country. Their winemaking emphasises acidity and freshness, attempting to achieve moderate alcohol levels and bright aromas. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, they are gently destemmed (or not) and moved by gravity to small open fermenters where they ferment with ambient yeasts and as few additions as possible. Many have no additions other than sulphur dioxide, and the reds are typically bottled without any fining or filtration. Simple, hands-off winemaking.
