About the Wine
Passetoutgrain is such good wine. The term translates as 'all grapes allowed,' even though it is a blend of two - Pinot Noir and Gamay. While Burgundy can sometimes be a little too serious, and Beaujolais a little too flippant, Passetoutgrain reins them together to get a juicy, easy and surprisingly complex middle ground.
This is a racy and fresh wine, absolutely bursting with ripe strawberries, raspberries and a dusting of sweet and savoury spices. There aren't really any tannins to speak of, but that whip-crack of natural acid gives some structure and leaves a clean finish. This is one mouth-watering and moreish bottle.
About Taupenot-Merme
Taupenot-Merme is run by a brother and sister team - Virginie in sales and Romain in the winery. Together, they embody seven generations of winemaking, experience and passion. That said, like many younger winemakers in Burgundy, they aim at completely recognising the potential and power of their priceless family vineyards.
They control 13 hectares around the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits, some of it Grand Cru territory. All grapes are destemmed to allow for greater fruit clarity, with savoury elements coming through thoughtful use of oak. These are self-confident and beautifully structured expressions of Burgundy, and the best is yet to come.
