About The Wine

A different look at Chenin Blanc here from winemaker Dan Graham.

This wine combines a block of Chenin - one of the most northern in the Clare Valley - and a block of Chenin in the far north of the Barossa. One third left it to hang out on skins for 14 days before pressing. The wine was then aged in mixture of brand new Slovenian oak and four-year-old Russian oak barrels.

To try the wine you'd never pick it. The time in wood adding depth and perhaps a little oak tannin rather than out-and-out flavour.

Whatever happened in those barrels has worked out a treat - this is one of the most interesting versions of Chenin from this part of the country.

From The Producer

Chenin Blanc (100%). Sourced from one of the most northern blocks in Clare Valley and Barossa Valley for the first time. The Chenin vineyard in Clare valley is around 58 years old which is practiced organically. The Barossa Valley vineyard is around 30 years old and was picked two weeks after the Clare vineyard this year. It was picked around 11.5 baume and whole bunch pressed to 4th use Russian oak puncheons and a new Slovenian oak Puncheon. About 30% of the fruit was fermented on as whole bunches for 14 days then pressed off into the new Slovenian puncheon. The fermentation took about 20 days to ferment on lees with full malolactic fermentation as well and left in oak until October before it was racked and a small amount of sulfur added before.

DDS review

Little waxy with aromas of fresh honey comb, toffee and bruised apples. Slippery and glossy palate which is framed by perky, crystalline acidity. Soft tannins and a flavours of cumquat and sherbet. Cool look at Chenin, should be more like it. - Different Drop Wine Team

Nice skinsy CB but a bit on the sweet side

Starts off very nicely with a good little savoury bite and plenty of texture but the sweetness overpowers it after a while.
