About

About the Wine

The Seppeltsfield Tinta Cao Tinta Amarela Touriga is a rich and bright wine inspired by the red blends of Portugal.

The blend of Tinta Cao, Tinta Amarela and Touriga offers a lovely mix of different characters, such as red fruits, savoury herbs, leather notes and fine tannins. The aromas are vibrant and lean towards florals, with lots of violets and rose. Cranberries, cherries, raspberries and blueberries give the palate luscious and fresh flavours, with the purple colour coming from the addition of Touriga.

This is a moreish wine with nice acidity that you can either drink by itself or with some rich meat dishes

About Seppeltsfield

Seppeltsfield is a Barossa icon winery, famous for its unbroken line of hundred-year old tawny release, and also for its Canary Island date palms which line the avenues of its amazing cellar and winery.

First established by Joseph and Johanna Seppelt in 1850, it has been back in private hands since 2007 after a period of corporate ownership, owned by winemaker Warren Randall.

Their incredible heritage of fortified wines is now being supplemented by a renewed focus on outstanding still table wines. The future seems as bright as its past.

From the Producer

Crafted to highlight floral aromatics and bright, medium-weighted complexity, Tinta Cao (40%) brings red fruit brightness and rounded tannin, Tinta Amarela (40%) a leather and dried herb complexity, and Touriga (20%) a distinctive violet perfume and inky, colour.

A modern expression of traditional Portuguese varieties, ‘No. EC3’ - the first release under this code - was grown in the Barossa, but takes inspiration from the Duoro Valley. Each variety has been grown by a generational grape growing family, their fruit contributing for many years to Seppeltsfield’s fortified wine releases. The vineyard is located in the Northern reaches of the Barossa, near Stockwell. Red varietal blends carrying an ‘EC’ (East Cellar) number were first released by Seppeltsfield’s founding family in the 1960s, their compositions of region and variety varying on each release.

The East Cellar code itself was a unique reference to where the wines were rested and matured in oak barrels prior to release.

"I am loving the Portguese varieties getting more of a run in the Barossa giving full-flavoured wines with a tasty bite of acidity. They are not going to age particularly long but they show another side to the Barossa while also drinking well as the more serious wines mature to hit their peak. "This example opens up with a wide array of beautifully bright and vibrant fruits. Blueberry, boysenberry and violets with some more savoury, tarry notes in the mix too – you could quite literally bask in the beauty of this wine for hours and its ethereal aromas. Acidity then leads the charge on the palate where dark fruits with some earthy notes are supported by grainy tannins to a long and spicy finish. it’s a great little casual bistro red which you could even enjoy slightly chilled with tapas or charcuterie."
