About

About The Wine

For a wine with such a dark name the Noirien is a pale and tangy wine, more a cheerful rom-com than an a sinister film noir.

All Scorpo estate fruit, mostly destemmed, with a just a hint of oak aging. This is fresh drinking for now rather than later, with wild raspberry and cherry flavour and all the high acid crunch a Pinot can give.

There is some weight and depth, with gentle, loose, silky tannins and some spice on the finish.

Top notch bargain Pinot drinking.

From The Producer

Vibrant cherry red with purple hues. Bright berry fruit and cherry nose with flint, oak and spices. Dark cherries, mushroom and spices on the savoury palate with silky tannins. A wine of wonderful structure and persistence.

The fruit is hand-picked, predominantly de-stemmed, and open vat fermented in a mixture of concrete and stainless steel fermenters. Pre- fermentation cold soaking of the de-stemmed fruit enhances flavours and complexity. Spontaneous wild yeast fermentation usually begins 5 to 6 days after. The cap is plunged as required. After fermentation, the wine is pressed and transferred to a selection of new (approx. 20%) and used (one, two and three year old) tight-grained French barriques for the ESTATE and HIGH DENSITY wines and 5% new oak for the NOIRIEN. The wine is bottled 12 to 13 months later.Blend : Pinot Noir (100%)

"10% whole bunches in the fermentation. Matured in 5% new oak barriques for 11 months. This is a really refreshing style of juicy pinot. It actually has a beaujolais nouveau feel to it: super-bright and mouth-watering. Juicy cherries, rhubarb, quite herbal yet lightly spiced with an appealing Campari and blood-orange flavour. Tannins light and in the background, acidity in charge here. Delicious." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)
