About The Wine

Sam Coverdale is living his dream. Farming a little patch of Mornington Peninsula and making wines that he loves to drink.  The more care he has taken in the vineyard, the better the wines have become. The proof really is in the pudding.

This Pinot Noir, a blend of fruit from selected blocks on his estate, is one of his slickest releases. It's made with a gentle touch, a little carbonic maceration to bring out the red fruit and perfume, but with some gravelly base notes to off-set the prettiness.

It's a bold and plush style of Pinot Noir which deserves a big glass and plenty of air.

About Polperro

Sam Coverdale is living his dream. Farming a little patch of Mornington Peninsula and making wines that he loves to drink.

"We believe that great wines have character and balance, and that they are grown on the vine." he says, hence his move toward organic farming principals.

The more care he has taken in the vineyard, the better the wines have become. The proof really is in the pudding.

From The Producer

A Blend of 5 of our estate vineyards , this mix of vineyard sites and clonal make up result in multiple levels of complexity, that all come together in a harmonious and complimentary way.

The fruit is handpicked across multiple vineyards & blocks, and destemmed into 2 ton open fermenters as whole berries and left to start fermenting naturally. It is not touched until a 2-3° drop in baumé, which allows fermentation to occur inside the grape berry and increases the aromatics of the finished wine. Once fermentation starts strongly, the ferment is hand plunged 2-3 times per day for 15 days. The wine is left on skins for post ferment maturation for up to 15 days, then pressed off skins and racked to barrel. Seasoned oak is used, then it is racked and returned to barrel in the summer. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration in the autumn of the following year, giving it a total of 10 months in oak.

The Wine Front

"This is a wine of a distinctive style. You need to bear this in mind. The style is reductive, smoky and spice-laden, which may or may not be your thing. In this context though it’s a fantastic wine, complex, wild, as-intense-as-it-needs-to-be, structured and sustained. It’s ripped with strawberry and forest floor flavours, earth and dry spice, sweet cedar and overt reductive/smoky aspects. It’s dry, it’s tannic, it has presence and power. It’s the kind of wine I file mentally under Do You Dare? This wine doesn’t sit on the fence. It stakes its claim boldly and well." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

"Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, spice, sap, underbrush and a leafy coolness. The flavours are red-fruited, bright, layered and crunchy. Plenty of strawberry and peppery spice, nutmeg and cola. The tannins are textured, layered and long. Acidity is crunchy and lively. Lovely freshness and vitality here." - Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

Delivery times vary considerably with Australia Post and unfortunately there is no Express Delivery Option for wine (because it is fragile and heavy). PLEASE NOTE that we are currently seeing significant delays in the Australia Post delivery network. Strict government health and safety requirements and very high parcel volumes are causing significant backlogs at the main NSW and VIC sorting facilities. Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. Just contact us on 1300 668 385 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.

Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
