About The Wine
With the 2020 harvest offering plenty of difficulties for harvest in his home of Yass, NSW, Sam Leyshon has extended his wings in search of fruit to fill the void. Plenty of delicious things have emerged, including this textural, skin-fermented Vermentino.
He sourced the fruit through well-known champion of alternative varieties in the Riverland, Ash Ratcliff. Ash grows good grapes in warm climates, Sam has put his Vermentino to good use.
The time on skins has turned up the volume of this variety. You'll seach delicious ripe golden fruits, a lick of fine powdery tannin and a finish that flourishes with spice. It's an interesting, exotic thing to drink.
About Mallaluka Wines
After years of roaming the Australian outback, young Sam Leyshon returned home to the Canberra region and hooked himself a job at Clonakilla.
Now with that invaluable experience under his belt, he has taken over the winemaking reins at his family winery in Yaas, an hour north-west of Canberra. His dynamic wines have already caused quite a stir as he finds his own winemaking groove.
These are modern wines that reflect the changing face of this exciting region. He makes wines with a wild side, they are made with minimal intervention and are insane value for money.
With Sam in the driver's seat, Mallaluka is one of the rising stars of the region, bringing a unique light and shade to the Canberra district.
