About The Wine
Grown in the Northern Savoie subregion of Marin located on the rolling banks of Lac Leman. With soils comprised of granite, alluvial river stones and and glacial deposits it's easy to see why Gamay is so at home here.
Les Vignes de Paradis make just one bottling, it's a tiny production, essentially the contents of a single terracotta amphora. It is an aromatic wine, alive with strawberry and wild herbs, but there is savouriness from a strong mineral core. The finish is fine and elegant.
Beautifully made and a top example of Savoie Gamay.
About Les Vignes de Paradis
5th generation winemaker Dominique Lucas has found his vinous home in Savoie on the border with Switzerland. He bought Les Vignes de Paradis in 2008 and has farmed the estate biodynamically since. The hero variety is Chasselas but he plays with plenty of other varieties too.
Dominique vinifies his grapes in an array of different amphorae, barrels, and concrete eggs, without following any specific path, rather trusting his intuition and intent. The lo-fi line up at this estate reads like a who's who of Chasselas so if you're interested to see just how diverse this underrated variety can be, start here.
