About the Wine

Being one step ahead of Australian wine trends and finding top value offerings in niche corners of the market is the very particular skill set of Australian wine entrepreneur, Nicholas Crampton.

Seeing the rise and rise of popularity locally for both Australian and French versions of Gamay, Nick sought out a lovely parcel of fruit in the Loire Valley that he could get back to Australia for a snip of a price.

It's made in classic 'Beaujolais-nouveau' style, with fermentation in stainless steel tanks and a portion of carbonic fermentation, looking for a bright, jubey, easy-drinking Gamay that will suit year-round drinking in Australia - even when it's hot!

Mission accomplished.

From the Producer

The wine has a bright and brilliant red colour with light edges exhibiting attractive perfume of fresh berry fruits and sweet pepper. Elegant and round tannins ensure good structure and it finishes dry with a good balance between sweet and savoury fruit. A perfect wine for game dishes as well as fish and can benefit from a slight chill prior to serving.

Totally de-stemmed before a long, cool maceration. Maturation is primarily in stainless steel with roughly one third undergoing carbonic maceration, aiding aromatics and fruit expression. A further third receives six-month maturation in French oak for greater complexity.

"Lots of green capsicum to smell, but also redcurrant and fresh blackberry hedge, almost a liquorice and spice thing too, and I don’t mind that bramble fruit and green profile at all, in fact, it’s quite fresh and appealing. Medium-bodied, blackcurrant and ripe tomato, a little grainy grip to tannin, tart raspberry, frisky, dark fruited and pleasantly herbal to close. It’s kind of overt, but nice to drink, because there’s a sort of nervy, edgy energy here that makes it a good drink. I like it a lot, and I’d go it, though perhaps it might be a little herbal for some. Anyway, a true vin de soif, so get stuck in." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

    No. Not good at all.

This is the only wine I've ever had from DD that I haven't liked. It has a nasty sourness that I just can't get over. Family/friends also tried it and nobody will drink it. Tried it next day and the day after. Still no. Down the sink. Sad face.

FaQs

Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.

Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
