About

About The Wine

The CBDB (Chenin Blanc Dynamic Blend) is Chenin Blanc from the oldest certified biodynamic vineyard in Margaret River.

Winemaker Nic Peterkin looks for a more textural style of Chenin, and in search of mouthfeel, this gets the works. Cold soaked and basket pressed, fermented in a mixture of old oak and clay amphora, the wine is then stirred every fortnight to bring some leesy creaminess into the wine. The grapefruit and pear fruit flavours shine throughout.

And finally, the whole thing is finished with a French bottle, and cork and crisp wax seal.

About L.A.S. Vino

Nic Peterkin’s blood runs red with Margaret River wine.

The son of Pierro founder, Dr Mike Peterkin and Shelly Cullen, of you guessed it, Cullen wines fame, the force is strong with this one. His wines are out there, challenging the status quo of one of the country’s most respected wine producing regions. This is the “New Guard” of Margaret River, and the wines are coming out all guns blazing.

Nic is playing with some varieties off the beaten path of classic Margaret River. Nebbiolo, Touriga Nacional and Sousao, all finding a home amongst his eye-catching range.

There's some serious substance to his project, being named as the 2016 Gourmet Traveller Young Winemaker of the Year for his eclectic and tantalising releases.

Additional Info

From The Producer

A certified organic and biodynamic site at the northern end of the cape. For the previous few years the vineyard had been completely unkempt and unpruned with no trellising. The vines sprawl everywhere where pigs, geese, guineafowl and cows roam free. The site faces north with a little creek running through the middle of the vineyard. Native flowers and plants grow under the rows with no herbicides or pesticides sprayed and no cultivation. It is one of only a few certified biodynamic vineyards in the region and was one of the first to receive Demeter certification.

The fruit was hand picked and showed varied levels of ripeness through the vineyard and crop, chilled overnight and hand sorted prior to being lightly cold pressed as whole bunches, very gently over a few hours. The juice was left to naturally settle prior to a wild ferment in french barriques and clay amphora. No malolactic fermentation and fortnightly lees stirring prior to being bottled with no fining and a light filtration. Tastes like: pink grapefruit, passionfruit, passiona, pavlova and lime.

DDS review

Chenin Blanc is a beautiful thing, and can be as versatile as Chardonnay. Nic Peterkin's latest release is almost Chardy-like in palate weight and has a rare textural allure. Gorgeous wine - DD Wine Crew

The Real Review

"Light straw-yellow colour with a hint of green to the rim. Lifts from the glass with gardenia, honey, and lemon thyme aromas. A rich and full weight on palate-entry. White nectarines, roasted coconut and soft herbs all fill the mouth whilst a saline minerality lingers underneath. But this wine is all about its textural intensity that is oily yet has crisp acidity that creates a unique tension. Amazing length and drive making for a spectacular example of a local chenin blanc." - Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

The Real Review

"Bright, light-yellow colour, with an intensely fruity aroma of grapefruit, lemon and beeswax, including a subtle honey note. The wine is intense and medium-bodied, elegant and finely-textured, with lovely balance and sense of completeness. It's all about the fruit; oak is almost invisible, although there is barrel fermentation involved. An outstanding dry chenin blanc." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)
