Florent Baumard is one of the world’s best winemakers, and you probably don’t know him.
About The Wine
Florent Baumard has 14.5 hectares of Chenin in Savennieres, approximately seven of which is located in Clos St Yves, an enviable spot rich in rhyolite, a volcanic rock cherished by local vignerons.
The fruit for this cuvee is harvested with multiple passes through the vineyard, all geared towards capturing the berries at the point just before flavourful turns into richness. There is ripe red apple, pear and pronounced minerality, the wine is made entirely without wood and the textural component and touch of honeyed pastry comes entirely from fruit, lees aging and a little time in bottle.
Wonderfully pure with more tension than a Different Drop ping pong tournament! Simply benchmark Chenin.
About Domaine des Baumard
Domaine des Baumard might be one of the most underestimated and underpriced producer of dry and sweet white wines in the world...
Situated in Rochefort sure Loire, on the right bank of the Layon River near where it joins the mighty mother river, the Domaine, under owner/ winemaker Florent Baumard releases an enviable range of sparklings and whites but it is their sweeter styles from Quarts de Chaume and Coteaux du Layon which gain the headlines.
