About The Wine

The Diana Madeline is one of the true icon wines of Australia.

Produced by one of the most renowned wineries in Margaret River, the Diana Madeline represents the pinnacle of Australian viticultural and winemaking prowess and is unsurprisingly one of the top 5 most collectable wines in the country.

This elite blend of Bordeaux varieties is farmed with an almost militant adherence to the principals of biodynamic farming. Owner/winemaker Vanya Cullen is one of the most outspoken advocates of the benefits of these practices in the industry and her results speak for themselves.

If you are a collector of Australia's best Cabernet blends, the Diana Madeline is a wine you need in your cellar.

About Cullen

The Cullen property has been in the Cullen family since 1948 with founders Diana Madeline and Kevin John planting the first vines on the farm in 1971.

Today Cullen sits as one of the top estates in Margaret River. Their impeccable versions of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are now both considered clear regional benchmarks.

The Cullen estate is farmed with a strict adherence to the principals of biodynamic farming. Current day owner and winemaker Vanya Cullen is one of the most outspoken advocates of the benefits of these practices in the industry and her results speak for themselves.

These are extraordinary wines that hold their own against the world's best. A gem of the Australian wine scene, to be sure.

From The Producer

This vintage was hot and dry. For the old block cabernet sauvignon vines these drought like conditions resulted in the vines producing small berries, and hence the vines were low yielding – .i.e. bunch numbers were average but with low berry weight. This produced a wine of elegance, balance and perfume… effortless.

First impressions have juicy berry fruit, mulberry, plum, cherry, This unctuous fruit is framed by fine grained tannins and Wilyabrup earth, ironstone, and dust which expresses the heat of the vintage and compliments the concentration of the fruit.

Blend : Cabernet Sauvignon (92%), Merlot (4%), Cabernet Franc (3%), Malbec (1%)
ABV : 13%
Closure : Screw Cap
Drink Until : 2049
Bottle Size : 750ml

The Wine Front

"Another beautiful, soulful release, this one a bit darker, a bit bolder, a mesh of tannins over train tracks and tension, but a wine of significant pedigree and wow factor nonetheless. Dark chocolate and graphite aromas with salted plum, black olive, bay leaf and oyster shell. Flavours ripple with authority in that weave of tannin, dark choc again, panforte perhaps more apt, dark cherry, saline minerality, more bayleaf and cinnamon spice. Succulent in the finish, mouth-watering and very fresh. Compelling stuff." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Halliday Wine Companion

"Has the usual estate blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and malbec (92/4/3/1%), the grapes hand picked on fruit days between early February and early March, the components matured in French oak (50% new) for 13 months. The perfumed bouquet has already soaked up the new oak, the purity of the fruit in a cassis-redcurrant-blueberry spectrum. The small berries of a quasi-drought summer might have imposed awkward tannins, but the medium-bodied palate is so perfectly balanced it has a drinking span of 30 years and counting." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

The Real Review

"Dark, deep and a really youthful purple colour in the glass. Lifted and complex aromas of cedar, graphite, blackberry, brambles, violets and a briary underbrush edge. Full, rich, layered and complex, lashings of mulberry and blackcurranty fruit, firm, granular, textured tannins and lively acidity. Just beginning its journey and what a journey it shall be." - Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

    Wonderful Diana

Highly perfumed, violets and an array of red and blue berries, plums, tobacco and chocolate. Dense but fine tannins, clearly built for the long haul. Flavour goes on and on. Incredible length. Superb Cabernet.
