About The Wine

If you want to see what Australian Fiano is all about, the Coriole version by Mark Lloyd and son Duncan Lloyd is in the top echelon, to be sure.

Boasting the country's first commercial release of this variety in 2005, Coriole have developed an affinity with Fiano and year-in-year-out turn in an excellent example.

It's crisp, textural, and importantly for a white wine from McLaren Vale, it maintains freshness and lively acidity, irrespective of vintage conditions.

A lovely wine no matter which way you dice it, and undoubtedly one of the country's premier Fianos.

About Coriole

Coriole is a McLaren Vale institution.

It's a winery with two sides. On one hand, they craft classic regional versions of Shiraz and Cabernet which are exemplary. On the other, they have been a trailblazer for emerging varieties (Italian varieties, in particular) in Australia.

Owner and winemaker, Mark Lloyd was one of the first in the country to experiment with Sangiovese and Fiano and has been hugely influential in bringing these varieties into the Australian wine zeitgeist.

Today, Mark's son Duncan has taken over the winemaking duties and the experimentation with emerging varieties continues. Nero d'Avola, Negroamaro, Piquepoul have come into the fold.

Coriole never stands still. They are trailblazers that have had a huge impact on the changing face of modern Australian wine.

Additional Info

From The Producer

The grape variety Fiano originates from the province of Avellino in the Campania region east of Naples. The variety takes its name from the Latin 'vitis apiana', as the grapes were so sweet they proved to be irresistible to bees ('api').

Fiano was selected by Mark Lloyd when looking for a new southern Italian variety to grow in McLaren Vale. The first Australian Fiano was released by Coriole from the 2005 vintage.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

It has a more expressive nose than nearly all other Fianos on the market, with aromas of lemons, melons and hints of herbs. Fiano’s texture though is what makes it so attractive, and this wine nails it. Mouth-filling and complex on the one hand, fresh and zippy on the other, with layers of stone fruits, citrus and the variety’s characteristic nuttiness all working in tandem. Great acidity and subtle but effective grip hold everything in place. Easy-drinking yes, but very interesting to drink! - Different Drop Wine Team

Interesting experience of rare single varietal

Palate is fresh and beautifully balanced with great natural acidity.

Soft and creamy texture.

Lacks complexity possibly due to youth .
