About the Wine
When we think of Italian wines, it's often reds that spring to mind. There's nothing wrong with this, of course, but it does mean that, more often than not, the country's amazing selection of white wines are overlooked. None more so than Verdicchio.
This is such a great wine. Full bodied, with ripe citrus, juicy pears, stewed apples and a little bit of tropical fruit nectar. As it opens, some blossoms come through as well as fresh greenery. This is a versatile wine and is some seriously easy drinking. It would absolutely shine with a seafood pasta or paella though.
About Ciu Ciu
Ciu Ciu is local slang for “drink drink”, though it sounds more like a train thundering down the tracks.
It is the largest family run winery in the Marche region of central Italy, the other side of the Appenines from Tuscany. Established in 1970 by Natalino Bartolomei and his wife Anna, and continued today by sons Massimiliano and Walter, they have over 180 hectares of vineyards producing a lot of wine each year. It is therefore astonishing that all of the Ciu Ciu wines are made from certified organic grapes.
And their size means that these are often the best value organic Italian wines available in Australia.
