About the Wine
There is Sauvignon Blanc, and then there is Sancerre. While New Zealand may be the behemoth of the Sauvignon Blanc world, Sancerre is refined, tightly wound and defined by its precision and elegance.
This is especially true here. This wine is sourced from all three unique soil types in Sancerre - silex, caillotes and terres blanches - and Dezat lets his fruit ripen slightly longer than most estates in the region. It's a wine which aims to capture the best of everything. So, while there are the classic Sancerre notes of minerality, apples and citrus, there are also some riper flavours coming through, like passionfruit and white cherries. It's a gorgeous wine. Try it with goat's cheese or fried whitebait.
About Andre Dezat
The Dezat family can trace their wine growing heritage in Sancerre to 1550 which is, to put it mildly, a simply staggering amount of time, Over 450 years, you would expect that they had figured out a thing or two. Frankly, you'd be right.
Andre Dezat took over the family plots in the late 1940s and was actively involved in the rebranding of Sancerre - the region has only been specialising in Sauvignon Blanc post-phylloxera- and encouraging tourism in the region. Today, his grandsons Arnaud and Firmin run things with an awareness of their heritage but with an eye on modern techniques. With slightly longer ripening, they marry classic winemaking and riper flavours, making a truly new style Sancerre.
