An exemplary source of characterful Montagny
Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
About The Wine
Lifted honey, citrus and stone fruit on the nose with a lovely acid line supporting the gentle richness of the palate.
This is a great introduction to the value that Chardonnay from Montagny can offer and a snap shot of Aladame’s much respected, and favourably reviewed, work in the region.
.One for Chablis drinkers looking for some great value.
About Aladame
Montagny is the southernmost point of Cote Chalonnaise, a hilly terrain of clay and chalk that is classified to whites.
It is a region dominated by a single cooperative and Stephane Aladame is one of the few growers going it alone and he has attracted great attention.
Like all good growers Stephane’s efforts are concentrated in the vineyards, he works organically and by hand and horse. In the winery there is a minimalist approach akin to many of the great houses. Natural yeasts, minimal filtration, fining and sulphur are all commonplace.
Stephane makes super chardonnays that are often found on tables across France. Wines for those who drink what’s in the bottle, not what’s on the label.
