About

About The Wine

The Field Blend is an unusual blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Ugni Blanc, Roussanne and Carignan, from a now-certified organic vineyard above the Adelina winery in the Clare Valley.

The vines (originally Cabernet) were planted back in 1976, then in 2015 Col and Jen grafted them over to this mad selection of red and white Rhone varieties. They picked the lot together, fermented them together and bottled the result after six months in oak. Just 600 odd bottles produced.

It's a light but savoury red wine, with delicious bright red fruit, a hint of mint, and soft graphitey tannins. A strange yet lovely offering from this star Clare Valley producer.

About Adelina

Col McBryde and Jennie Gardner are Adelina. A pair of smart cookies, each rocking a PhD in microbiology and between them some pretty serious winemaking chops. Together, they have formed one of the Clare Valley's most exciting wineries.

From what was a small operation that began in 2002, slowly but surely the Adelina brand has been picking up steam.

There is a delicacy and purity inherent in every wine they produce. From opulent old vine Shiraz and Mataro, to one of the country's most excellent Nebbiolo and a set of scintillating Rieslings, there is a sense of class and refinement to the whole project.

These meticulously crafted, beautifully presented wines are just a joy to drink.

The Wine Front

"A true field blend of shiraz, grenache, mataro, ugni blanc, roussanne and carignan, all picked and co-fermented together off a block that is randomly grafted/planted to the varieties.Unreal wine here. So much character, so many notes to the score, so many instruments to the orchestra. Glorious perfume of sweet and savoury notes, floral things, pot pourri, clove and cinnamon spice, exotic herbs, the kitchen sink. It’s succulent and sleek in the palate but still grabs you with a slightly wild edge, a bit of garrigue here, a bit of game meat there. Superb texture too, a corset of ultra fine tannins doing their thing to the understated juiciness here. Oh yes please." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
