About

About The Wine

The Les Chaillets is one of Cuilleron's finest white wines harvested from his best and oldest vines in the tiny appellation of Condrieu.

It shows great power and great control, with a huge volume of varietal fruit character (apricot, peach, honeysuckle) but with serious tension and drive from crisp acidity.

It's Viognier elevated to the highest level. Beautiful now but brilliant with more time in bottle.

About Yves Cuilleron

Cuilleron is a family-owned Northern Rhone estate that has been in production for three generations.

Current owner/proprietor Yves Cuilleron believes in a sustainable approach to farming and winemaking, leaning into traditional practices when crafting his cuveés from the top appellations in the north of the region.

From Condrieu to Cornas, they make outstanding wines from their home in Chavanay, just south of Condrieu itself.

From The Producer

Origin: the best and oldest vines on the estate, on south/southeast-facing terraces overlooking Chavanay. “Les Chaillets” is not a district but the local name for terraces.

Soil: muscovite-rich granite.

Viticulture: high-density planting (8,000-10,000 vines per hectare). No insecticides or pesticides, few treatments (depending on weather), small amount of organic-only fertiliser, with respect of soil and vine balance. Vigour and yield control, leaf-thinning and green harvesting to promote grape maturation.

Vinification: the grapes are picked when fully ripe and handsorted. After pressing, they are alcoholic and malolactic fermented in barriques with native yeasts.

Maturing: 9 months in barriques, on the lees, no racking, regular stirring.

Style: a rich, refined and complex wine. A nose of dried yellow stone fruits, violets and honey. Harmonious, well-bred style on the palate, with good volume. A pure long finish, underlaid by the terroir’s minerality.

Ageing: drink for the primary aromas during 3-4 years, but also for the secondary aromas from 6-10 years.

Pairing: shellfish and delicate fish (langoustine with lemon and fresh sage).

Blend : Viognier (100%)
ABV : 14%
Closure : Cork
Drink Until : 2032
Bottle Size : 750ml

Decanter Magazine

"A particularly floral expression, with lavender and violets on the nose among the apricot fruit. Full-bodied, but still fluid on the palate, this has a real intensity and freshness, a sense of tension and minerality. Long finish that's not overburdened by oak. This has a sense of straightness and direction despite the breadth on the palate and open aromatic display. Very well balanced, finishing floral. Selection of parcels grown on biotite granite, vinified then aged nine months in barriques and foudres. Drink 2021-2030." - Matt Walls (Decanter)
