About The Wine

The Dry Red No. 2 from the great Yarra Yering vineyard is a unique look at Yarra Valley Shiraz.

Yarra Yering founder, Dr. Bailey Carrodous,  was inspired by the great blends of the Rhone Valley when he first conceived this wine.

It's predominantly Shiraz with a tiny portion of both Merlot and Viognier blended in for enhanced complexity.

It's a vibrant yet eminently cellar-worthy style of Shiraz and one of the most collected in the country.

The balance is impeccable and will mature majestically for decades to come.

About Yarra Yering

Yarra Yering is one of the most iconic wineries of the modern Yarra Valley.

Founded in 1969 by the visionary vigneron Dr. Bailey Carrodous, Yarra Yering has become a benchmark in quality and one of the most collected wineries in the country.

From this small patch of earth in the North of the Gruyere sub-region, Dr. Carrodous produced these legendary wines for more than three decades. In the process becoming recognised as one of the most influential winemakers in the Yarra's history.

Today, the wines are crafted by the talented Sarah Crowe. She brings the wines to bottle with the same passion and attention to detail that made the great Yarra Yering wines of old so revered.

The Real Review

"Very youthful purple colour with crimson at the core, the bouquet similarly youthful and bright, with spicy, meaty-charcuterie, confit cherry and gentle oak-char aromas of great character. Some floral grace notes emerge with time in the glass. The wine is full-bodied yet very elegant, with an effortlessness to its drive and intensity, without heaviness or excessive grip. Long, long carry. A lovely, graceful wine that drinks well already but will surely last a couple of decades." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

"Hand picked, sorted and then destemmed directly to the Yarra Yering half-tone open-fermenters. As much whole-berry ferment as possible to encourage perfume. A portion of fermenters had frozen viognier skins added to the bottom. Aged 15 months in French oak barriques 30% new before blending. It's easy to be bowled over by this wine's beauty, from its bright colour to its heady fragrance of violets, Middle Eastern spices, fresh currants and blue fruits. Then magic happens. It is superfine, graced with perfectly formed silky tannins. The oak is seamlessly integrated, then flavours builds across the barely medium-bodied palate. While there's a lightness of touch, it's layered and complex. A complete wine full of style, elegance and substance." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

YY are excellent, wines, suggest a 6 year lay-down for the reds, to allow them to fully integrate. Best Buy a few each year.

One of the best Australian Shiraz Viogniers around

One of my favourite styles and this is one of the best. Up there with Clonakilla and even Torbreck Run Rig! A nice fresh (lighter) style typical of a cooler climate with a beautiful nose and nice juicy acidity leaving you wanting another sip.
