About The Wine
Winemaker Nick James-Martin makes a particularly good fist of Vermentino - walking that fine line between racy and flavoursome that the best Sardinian examples manage to achieve.
The key to making Vermentino interesting is picking at the right time. Nick nails it with this wine, getting the fruit right in the sweet-spot where the flavours are full but the acid is still fresh and zippy.
Then, by fermenting it as cloudy juice, he builds weight and texture around the linear spine of the wine. It's a top rendition of the variety here in Australia.
About Wines of Merritt
Nick and Sarah James-Martin stay away from Margaret River cliche and forges his own low-intervention path, making small delicious batches of alternative varieties.
Transplanted South Australians, the first wines under the Wines of Merritt label were released in 2017. Look out for Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc and a cracking version of Vermentino.
