About The Wine
From two parcels of vines, each about 40 years-old, one on granitic soil, the other red-clay over limestone, both of which are farmed organically.
There is a certain degree of rock’n roll to this wine, an American in Paris kind of vibe. Stands to reason, as winemaker Jon Purcell is in fact an American in Burgundy. Natural wine, made clean and pure is his calling card, and this is right in that wheelhouse.
Red and black berries, notes of undergrowth, a lick of leather, this is no maverick, cowboy style of wine, it’s got length and integrated tannins, that show just how serious Jon is about respecting the opportunity he has, to craft wine from the hallowed vineyards of Burgundy.
About Vin Noe
There are times when someone’s personality and demeanour are such that they are able to overcome what for others, are unsurmountable obstacles.
Such is the case with Jon Purcell, an American winemaker who works at Domaine Matrot in Meursault.
He started his own label, Vin Noe recently, only due to the relationship he was able to form with a local vigneron, who allowed him to lease vineyards in Puligny Montrachet and St Aubin, something only a handful of foreigners (especially Americans) are doing.
Making his wines in a natural way, he eschews the use of sulphur, while still making clean vinous styles in minute quantities. Jon is proof that hard work, and a positive outgoing nature, really do open doors that are shut to most others.
