About The Wine

Terre à Terre take their Sauvignon Blanc very seriously. They are one of the country's leaders in this variety.

Their attention to detail in the vineyard is what is setting them apart and placing them at the head of the pack. Their close planted vineyard in Wrattonbully produces fruit of striking intensity.

The Down to Earth Sauvignon Blanc is made in two parts, the first, earlier picked fruit is fermented in stainless, the second was fermented in large format oak. There is a lot that goes into making this wine and it shows. James Halliday awarded it 96 points and placed it on his Best of the Best list for 2021.

It's a dead serious Sauvignon Blanc for the stalwart fans of the variety.

Additional Info

From The Producer

This vineyard has been baptised the Crayères Vineyard, after the chalk cellars that are found throughout Xavier’s region of birth in Champagne, France. Similar natural structures are found underneath this very special vineyard, and they are now the subject of a research project led by a team from the University of Adelaide as they are full of undisturbed ancient fossilised remains.

The Crayères vineyard is located next to Tapanappa’s Whalebone Vineyard, at the top of a north-south limestone ridge in Wrattonbully, one of Australia’s most exciting regions. The Terra Rossa top-soil is characteristic of the area. This part of the vineyard was planted on rootstocks in 2008, using cuttings from the neighbouring Whalebone Vineyard and French clones, and at a relatively high density for the area (4,444 vines per hectare, similar to the density of vineyards in Saint Emilion). The fruiting wire is only 50cm above ground, which is why the local vignerons call the vines the “low vines”.

"Hand-picked, part whole-bunch pressed, 40% fermented in large foudres and demi-muids, the balance crushed and destemmed and cool-fermented in stainless steel. The bouquet and palate hunt together as one, stone fruit and citrus neatly trimmed by fresh acidity. Distinctive style." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

A drop that I will return to time and time again

this was no doubt one to remember. Refreshing, with fresh florals notes very slight hint of woody complexity and balanced acidity this is a refined and easy drinking one. This drop could convert someone to this style very easily. I'll definitely have again and again

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine.
