About the Wine
Burgundy is, for many, held as the epitome wine. The region has captured the attention and imagination of several people - industry professionals and punters alike - with it's beautiful siren song. Taupenot-Merme has definitely got us hypnotised.
From a spread of vineyards, planted between 1968 and 1986, this shows the vigour of youth but, at the same time, a refined subtlety. Ripe berries and cherries are strewn across the wine, with fleshy tannins and brooding spice. Fruit, spice and oak are all in a harmonious balance here. This is precision marksmanship, and exactly why we fell in love with Burgundy in the first place.
About Taupenot-Merme
Taupenot-Merme is run by a brother and sister team - Virginie in sales and Romain in the winery. Together, they embody seven generations of winemaking, experience and passion. That said, like many younger winemakers in Burgundy, they aim at completely recognising the potential and power of their priceless family vineyards.
They control 13 hectares around the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits, some of it Grand Cru territory. All grapes are destemmed to allow for greater fruit clarity, with savoury elements coming through thoughtful use of oak. These are self-confident and beautifully structured expressions of Burgundy, and the best is yet to come.
