About This Wine
From the slatey soils of the Hendelberg vineyard, this Riesling is a beautiful single-site expression of the grand grape of Rheingau. South-facing vines and the steep slopes are afforded extended hang time, with cool circulating breezes providing good ventilation, and the slate soils absorbing the intense sunshine at the bottom of the vineyard.
A truly elegant wine, driven by its minerality, there is an exceptional purity of fruit, imparted by being fermented and aged solely in tank, with no oak used at all. The bouquet is classic Rheingau; a mixture of minerality and enchanting fruit aromas of ripe stone fruit, and citrus, with tropical notes coming through as well.
What an exceedingly balanced and structured wine, one with so much enjoyment now, yet at the same time, so much anticipation for what the future will show.
About Prinz
The term 'garagiste' is thrown around a bit when it comes to winemaker, but for Fred Prinz its highly accurate, as he makes his wines in his garage just below his home in Hallgarten in the Rheingau.
Like many who work in the wine industry Fred had a dream to make his own wines. In his spare time, he farmed his own 1.5-hectare holdings close to the village and made wine for fun.
He quickly earned a reputation for the quality of these bottles and decided to give up the day job and work for himself.
He and his wife Sabine now own 6.5 hectares in three vineyards around Hallgarten; Jungfer with its quartzite soils, Schönhell underpinned by gravelly loam, and slatey Hendelberg. Nearly 90% of his vines are Riesling, though he grows a little Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc too.
