About the Wine
The first thing you'll notice about the Pittnauer Pinot Noir is the abundant red fruits, which absolutely jump from the glass. The ripeness of the cherry and strawberry aromas gives an impression of confectionery, even though the wine is completely dry.
The palate is incredibly fresh due to the bright acidity and the tannins are minimal, barely announcing themselves with all the smooth, fruity goodness and the velvety mouthfeel. While Austria is definitely more well known for its whites, the Pittnauer Pinot Noir shows that, under the right growing conditions, the reds can be classy and delicious as well. According to the winemaker, it will also pair well with fish.
About Pittnauer
Gerhard and Brigitte Pittnauer's wines are simply some of the best coming out of the Burgenland region, at the eastern edge of Austria, highlighting the beauty of local varieties Blaufrankisch, St-Laurent and Zweigelt, as well as excellent Pinot Noir.
Their red wines of brightness and insane drinkability have seen him garner many accolades in recent times, including 2014 Winemaker of the Year by Falstaff magazine, the top winemaker award in Austria.
