About the Wine
The Pegasus Bay Estate Pinot Noir is sourced from several blocks within the estate vineyard. Around 40% of the fruit was left as whole bunches and placed at the bottom of the tank, where the oxygen-free environment helped create very bright, fruity aromas and flavours.
While not as opulent as the Prima Donna Pinot Noir, the Estate shows the same DNA, with a core of red and black fruit, spice and some savoury characters such as smoke, truffle and earth. The wine shows great balance between tannin, acidity and alcohol, and the finish is sry and satisfying. A delightful Pinot Noir all round.
About Pegasus Bay
Ivan Donaldson's journey into wine started in the 1970s. After receiving a wine-focused book from his girlfriend, Christine, they explored the vineyards of Europe and then returned to their home in New Zealand, planting one of the first vineyards in the Canterbury region. Ivan and Christine subsequently got married, and their story has become entwined with wine ever since.
The vineyard, planted in 1985, is home to an array of grapes, such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, with their reserve Pinot Noir – Prima Donna – receiving many very positive reviews for its incredible quality.
