About The Wine
Loved this complex Chardonnay from Novum, which comes off a section of an old (for NZ) vineyard in the Wairau Valley sub-region of Marlborough.
It's layered, slightly creamy style that builds from front to back. Look for hints of oatmeal and spice, co-existing with lemon zest and grapefruit flavours.
There's a savoury bite to the acidity, helping build the impressive palate to a lovely, lingering finale.
Our first look at Novum wines, and they were an automatic 'yes'.
About Novum Wines
Novum is a new wine producer, as the name might indicate to wine-drinking latin scholars. They are husband and wife team Will Hoare and Rachel Jackson Hoare, who have taken their Marlborough winemaking experience and already created an adoring fan-base for their pure, driven expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We are now part of the fan-base!.
Will started as a cellar hand and finished as General Manager and winemaker at Fromm Vineyards in Marlborough. Rachel also worked at Fromm but not before vintages at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon and Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault, and Cloudy Bay.With their extensive knowledge of Marlbrough vineyards, Will and Rachel source fruit from around the region and have planted a home block with an eye on the future.
