About The Wine

The Single Vineyard range from NSW winemaker Nick Spencer celebrates his favourite vineyards across the NSW High Country.

The Malbec is from the Moppity vineyard in the Hilltops region, the site that provided the fruit for Nick's breakout Jimmy Watson Trophy-Winning Shiraz from 2008. Being the source of this pivotal wine in his career, he has a real soft spot for the fruit from this site.

He produced just 50 dozen of this wine. It's the best two barrels of Malbec that he has made to date. A killer wine in tiny supply, this is a big, bold, blue-fruited beauty that you can drink now or cellar for a decade or more.

About Nick Spencer Wines

Nick Spencer made a name for himself after a hugely successful decade-long stint as chief winemaker at Eden Road, before deciding in 2017 to take the plunge and start his very own label.

The Nick Spencer wines are, like Eden Road's, focused on the regions of the NSW High Country, in particular, Tumbarumba and Gundagai.

With Nick's access to some of the region's best fruit, his wines are all about balance, style and drinkability, with Nick's stamp of quality on top. Tiny volumes made and an exciting producer to watch out for!

Additional Info

From The Producer

Our 2019 Malbec is grown on the Moppity vineyard in the Hilltops region of New South Wales. The vineyard was planted in 1973 and is responsible for some of the best wines made in New South Wales, including the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy winning Eden Road Shiraz I made in 2008. At 500 meters above sea level, the vineyard is exposed to warm dry days and cool nights, which makes it ideal for growing Malbec.

Originating in Bordeaux, France, Malbec is one of only 6 grape varieties permitted for use in Bordeaux red blends. Celebrated all over the world, Malbec is the most famous of Argentina’s red wines. Our 2019 Malbec is also a perfect illustration of its landscape – singing with big blue fruit and beautiful floral notes, this rich but medium bodied red is perfect while we are still tucked up in the cooler weather enjoying beautiful red meats and heady roasts.

Critic Reviews

The Wine Front

"Silken, crisp, fresh and fruit-driven at once. A pleasure to drink. Forest berries and redcurrant, peppercorn and complex spice. Another water-colour wine. Another wine adorned with both floral elements and an ‘of the garden’ feel. In short it’s an incredibly delicious wine. I’m sure it can be aged but there’s no need for it to be." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Halliday Wine Companion

"Mighty malbec, albeit a cool rendition. While a touch more ripeness would add to the flavour profile, this is a lovely wine, compelling actually. Awash with tangy fruit, morello cherries, juniper berries and green peppercorns, with radicchio bitterness like an Italian aperitif. It's ridiculously refreshing, unencumbered by new oak. And most importantly, the tannins are ripe." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

If your order is placed before 12pm we’ll get it on the truck that day. Delivery times vary considerably with Australia Post and unfortunately there is no Express Delivery Option for wine (because it is fragile and heavy). PLEASE NOTE that we are currently seeing significant delays in the Australia Post delivery network. Strict government health and safety requirements and very high parcel volumes are causing significant backlogs at the main NSW and VIC sorting facilities. Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.

FaQs

Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 1300 668 385 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.

Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.

Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
