About The Wine
The Blanc is Tom's blend of old vine Grenache Gris and Macabeu.
Blanc is the best place to start if you want to get a feel for Tom's wines. The Macabeu is fermented as whole bunches picking up a little colour and grip in the process. The Grenache Gris is whole bunch pressed to old large format barrels to ferment natural.
The schist soils that have housed these vines for the last 60-80 years impart a distinct sense of minerality to the wine. It's tense, taut and crackling with energy.
It's a complex and textural white that will have you salivating to the last glass.
About Matassa
Tom Lubbe is something of a cult icon in the world of natural wine.
A New Zealand native, Tom was one of the pioneers of the South African wine revolution that has taken place over the last couple of decades. His low-intervention approach flew in the face of the conventional wineries of South Africa that dominated the wine scene. His fascinating wines helped spawn a generation of exciting new producers across the country.
After he met his wife Nathalie during working vintage at the great Domaine Gauby, Tom decided to stay in France and launch Domaine Matassa. His wines are now adored the world over. These are old-vine meticulously farmed wines that offer a unique, unadultered sense of place. Some of the most hunted natural wines in the world today.
