About The Wine
Blue Rock is one of the two vineyards that make up Luna Estate, and its old vines produce a single site wine of depth, succulence and gentle power.
First plantings were way back in 1986, the very early days of NZ viticulture!
More approachable in its youth than its sibling, the Eclipse Pinot, it has density and silkiness in equal measure.
All destemmed but with a fairly long maceration and a year in French oak. A lo-fi wine with no added inputs apart from minimal sulphur.
About Luna Estate
Luna Estate was formed a few years ago by the combining of two Martinborough vineyards that were formerly Alana Estate and Murdoch James into a new venture.
The two Martinborough vineyards are Blue rock and Eclipse, and their flagship wines are single vineyard expressions of these two different terroirs. Though focused on Pinot Noir (they replanted a fair whack of Sauvignon Blanc to Pinot!) they also release excellent Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Rose, Chardonnay and Syrah, under the guidance of chief winemaker Joel Watson.
