About The Wine

The Xisto Cru Tinto is Seabra's most inwardly-concentrated, deftly-crafted expression of his region.

It combines multiple local varieties across two great 80+ year old vineyards that sit between 400m and 570m above sea level.

Using 100% whole bunch during ferment, Seabra gently extracts the powdery tannins and exotic flavours that combine beautifully with the overarching sense of minerality that runs through each of his cuvees.

It's a strange thing to say, but this shows something akin to Barossa Valley levels concentration but with freshness and energy that says it's decidedly its own thing. It will continue to mature wonderfully for years to come.

About Luis Seabra

Luis Seabra is a revolutionary "rock star" winemaker based in the Douro Valley in Portugal.

He forged a formidable reputation for crafting some of the region's finest table wines and fortifieds during his tenure as winemaker at the regional standard-bearer, Niepoort.

The launch of his eponymous label was his chance to make wines according to his own style preferences. These are fascinating and detailed table wines crafted from old-vine, sensitively-farmed vineyards along the famed Douro terraces.

The high altitude and dry conditions are perfect for creating the focus and tension Seabra seeks in his creations. Since garnering wide acclaim for his cuveés, Seabra has reinvigorated international attention toward his home.

From The Producer

Bush vines age 80+ on clay loam over slate, mostly blue and some yellow at 400–570 m. Rufete, Touriga Franca, Tinta Carvalha, Alicante Bouchet, Donzelinho Tinto, Malvasia Preta and others. The two vineyards were whole-bunch fermented separately.

Vinification was done in 3,500-litre old open wooden port vats with indigenous yeast and nothing was added to the wine but sulphur dioxide. Aged in 350-litre and 228-litres used oak.

"Spicy number; way spicy! Red cherry, sour dark cherry, maraschino, salty green olive and some new leather characters to sniff on. Similar to taste, a tart, taut thing happening in the palate with great extension of flavour, tension and precision as a feel, with a little thinness apparent too. Very fine wine here; kind not of fruit character in a way. Sleek and silky. Great presence and purity is the feel. Have to like them on the edge of ripeness, it feels. "Very deep, bold, youthful red-purple colour; the bouquet releases walnutty oak first-up, and a whiff of acetone, dark fruit aromas lurking beneath. The wine is full-bodied and very firm, loaded with tannins that provide a solid grip to the finish and aftertaste. A trace of VA doesn't worry the wine. Quite a lot of oak has been applied. Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.

Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
