About
Bloody good bastardo

Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

About The Wine

Bastardo is what the call Trousseau in the north west corner of Spain and Portugal. And McLaren Vale apparently!

A deliciously graceful, light expression with some whole bunch herbal notes and a slippery mouthfeel. No oak, some extended time on skins to give a fine tannin structure.

Sourced from Chalk Hill in McLaren Vale, this is a cracking, elegant wine that is more than a poolside quaffer. For fans of refined Pinot Noir.

About Lino Ramble

Lino Ramble is the exciting creation of eccentric duo Andy Coppard (Winemaker) and Angela Townsend (self-proclaimed "Engine Driver") born amongst the picturesque landscape of McLaren Vale.

Their wines are built on the philosophy that "The right variety grown in right place, farmed in a sustainable fashion" is going to produce the best fruit and it looks like a winning formula.

They focus on the classic Rhone varieties that have built the reputation of "The Vale" as well as venturing into the realms of Nero d'Avola, Saperavi and Nebbiolo. Their wines have a distinct, textural feel, are brilliantly packaged and first class value for money.

From The Producer

The name “Bastardo” would suggest it’s going to be a freaky monster. Guess again. Light to medium bodied wine, savoury, earthy & gamey. There is some similarities with Pinot Noir, but unlike Pinot, Bastardo (from Portugal) copes with McLaren Vale's climate far better. The whole bunch gives this wine a beautiful carbonic maceration lift.

Always the first fruit we pick each vintage. Harvested beginning of February. Hand harvested, 25% whole bunch and 90 day skin contact time. Wild fermented with no added acid, enzymes or tannins and no oak maturation. Vegan Friendly.

Blend : Bastardo (100%)
ABV : 13.8%
Closure : Screw Cap
Drink Until : 2025

The Wine Front

"Lovely wine. Light but tense. Characterful. Smells gorgeous. Macerated cherries, musk, armloads of woodsy spice, potpourri. Puts on a charm offensive. More length than breadth. Light but insistent. I think you get the idea. Bloody good bastardo." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
